Raven Goddess 12" x 18"
Raven Goddess 12" x 18"
There is a place where you can see the black winged daughters of the north, south, east and west circling the same sky. . . The Celtic Goddess Morrigan, the Slavic Goddess Morana, and the Hindu Goddess Dhumavati all live in companionship with ravens. These dark goddesses are the midwives of endings and beginnings, their black feathers stitching together life and death, winged and earthbound, mortal and divine, seen and unseen. . .They are also nest-builders: they cradle, hatch and awaken.
This is a handmade linocut print inspired by these three Raven Goddesses — an invitation to remember your own wild wings, to cradle what is ending, to midwife what is waiting to be born, and to rise as the raven hearted woman you were always meant to be.

MORE DETAILS: In folklore across traditions, ravens and crows are often connected to crones, hags, and witches, highlighting their shared mystical and symbolic ties. In Slavic tales, the goddess Morana moves with the crows as a harbinger of winter's death and the promise of spring’s return; in Hindu lore, Dhumavati, the smoky widow goddess, rides the crow, embodying the power found in loss, hunger, and the void; and in Celtic myth, the Morrigan circles the battlefield in raven form, choosing fates and stirring the tides of life and death. Though born in distant lands, these goddesses all cross the same threshold — between life and death, order and chaos, seen and unseen. The English word “crone” has roots in both “crown” and “carrion,” suggesting a blend of wisdom, age, and mortality. Historically a term of respect for elder women, "crone" symbolized insight and authority — an idea that inspired my design, which includes both mother and crone, integrating birth and life with decay and death, as the raven goddesses have done across cultures.
