RUTH HAZLETON

In 2025, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Australian songwriter and musician Ruth Hazleton around the release of her song “The Returning Selkie.”
Ruth chose one of my existing hand-carved Selkie linocut designs to accompany the July 2025 release of her song. I was delighted to see an image I had created independently find a new life alongside Ruth’s musical interpretation of this enduring piece of folklore.
It was a beautiful meeting of two forms of storytelling: Ruth’s music and my visual language of folklore and hand-carved printmaking.

I was honored to join Stacy Tenhouten in conversation March 2026 for her podcast, Entering the Creative Unknown, where we explored the creative process behind my hand-carved prints and the influence of folklore, archetypal imagery, and myth on my artistic practice.
Our conversation is part of Stacy’s series of dialogues with artists and depth-oriented creators—conversations that look beyond technique to explore the deeper relationship between artist, symbol, and creative process. Kate Rogers

I was delighted when Kate Rogers discovered my hand-carved Baba Yaga print and chose it for the cover of her poetry collection, Baba Yaga (2026).
The collection is a moving exploration of Rogers’ relationship with her aging mother, her Ukrainian heritage, and her mother’s untamed life in the wild. I was especially drawn to the mythic lens through which Kate approaches Baba Yaga—not simply as a figure from ancient folklore, but as a threshold figure: the great fear, the impossible passage, the wild unknown each of us must eventually encounter, and the fierce medicine that can be found there.
Seeing my Baba Yaga image become part of Kate’s poetic exploration of family, heritage, motherhood, and the wild was a meaningful meeting of two creative practices—her words and my visual language of folklore and archetypal imagery.
