PAPER SIZE ranges from: 15" x 20" to 17" x 22"
COLORS:
It is printed with Caligo safewash ink (non-toxic) in Celtic green or blue-gray Cornflower color. The colors have been handmixed so please expect slight variations. Extra care has been put into editing the photos to show the actual colors.
PAPERS:
The Celtic Green is printed on Hosho Paper, which is a bright white archival heritage paper from Japan. It is smooth and medium weight;
The blue-gray Cornflower colored pieces are printed on two different papers: Lokta and HanJi. Lokta paper is a natural tan-shade heritage paper from Nepal that is rustic textured, and very lightweight and almost transluscent. HanJi paper is an off-white archival heritage paper from Korea which is also rustic textured and it comes in a either a very light weight option or heavier weight option. There is no difference in the print between all three papers, but please note the lightweight paper needs to be handled with more care because it is fragile and can easily tear. If the weight of the paper matters to you, please indicate this in a note to the seller.
INSPIRATION:
This timeless trio (hares/rabbits, women and the moon) reminds us of the recurring changes of the seasons, phases of the moon, cycles of fertility in the wild and femininity and weaves its way into ancient folklore from around the world including: the beloved Chinese folktale of the Jade Rabbit and Moon Goddess Chang-e; the Egyptians included the rabbit, the moon and the goddess in their Book of the Dead, in their hieroglyphs, and in their artwork; in Celtic and Anglo-Saxon folklore the lunar goddess Eostre is also associated with hares, fertility and spring; in Mayan art, glyphs, hieroglyphics, and inscriptions, the Moon Goddess Po is frequently depicted holding a rabbit; and in Siberia a shape-shifting moon goddess named Kaltes roams the hills in the form of a hare. . .and more!
Though in our current world we may witness new borders being built, we can always count on the sanctuary of stories and symbolic synchronicities like this archetypal trio to remind us of our interconnected earthly human and more-than-human roots….
