This handcrafted linocut print is inspired by “Crescent Moon Bear,” an indigenous Ainu folktale from Japan, about a heroine who dares to come face-to-face with a wild bear and in the process discovers the courage and strength she already held within her. This folktale—retold in Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés - is a story with themes of self-discovery and the willingness to brave the unknown, risk discomfort, and meet one's own growth edge and finding one's own true power. It also speaks to the healing that comes from an encounter with the wild, and honors bear as a liminal guardian of transformation.

MATERIALS: This artwork is hand carved and hand printed with archival quality Cranfield safewash (non-toxic) ink in a color that is hand mixed and inspired by Bero-ai a historical Japanese term for the color known as Prussian Blue that was used in traditional Japanese printmaking. Arnhem 1618® Printmaking Paper is 100% cotton, acid-free, pH neutral archival heavy weight printmaking paper with vellum finish imported from the Netherlands.

PACKAGING: This print will be carefully rolled in Kraft paper, packed in a recycled clear bag and shipped in a recycled cylindrical tube. A one-page insert including a description of the folktale is included with the print. Gift wrap is possible, please mention it in your note to seller.
