Wolf Woman Linocut Print

Sale Price:$84.00 Original Price:$120.00

This original artwork depicts a closeup of a wolf beneath a full moon while a pack of wolves runs across the night sky, carrying a woman upon the back of one of these powerful beings. She is both rider and kin — a creaturely heroine embodying the ancient bond between women and wolves that has echoed through the myths, folklore, and ancestral memories of cultures across the world.

The design is inspired by the enduring archetype of wolf-woman: the creaturely heroine who moves between human world and the world of wolf. Her lineage can be traced through figures such as Luperca, the sacred she-wolf of ancient Rome who nurtured the abandoned twins Romulus and Remus; La Loba, the wolf-woman of Mexican and Indigenous desert Southwest folklore who gathers bones and restores life; the fierce Morrígan of Celtic mythology, whose power is intertwined with wolves and transformation; and the wolf-women and shapeshifters preserved in Germanic and Old English traditions to name just a few. Long before the modern world pushed wolves to the margins through persecution and extermination, many peoples lived alongside wolves as kin, teachers, companions and guides. This piece is a remembrance of that lost intimacy: a vision of a world where human and wolf spirits ran together beneath the same moon. It honors the ancient stories that recognize the wolf not as an outsider, but as a relative — and the woman beside her as a bridge between the wild and the human heart.
