STORY DETAILS:
A splash of grey flippers, the salty smell of sea kelp, and a fierce sense of belonging to an underwater world, are the beating heart of this ancient folktale of the Selkie, mythical shapeshifting seal women from Irish, Scottish and Icelandic maritime folklore. These shapeshifting seal women, born of sea and salt, remind us what it means to belong—truly, deeply—to ourselves. When a Selkie’s pelt is stolen, she is severed from her wild nature, her knowing, her place in the world. Her journey to reclaim it is a tale of returning to the self that was hidden, silenced, or bartered away for conditional love. It speaks to anyone who has ever set aside their truth to be accepted, only to realize that homecoming begins with the act of remembering who we really are.
. . .May we always be in search of our pelts or already twirling in them, dusting them off, redesigning them. . .
