Creatures Who Carry The Sun
Creatures Who Carry The Sun
In this handcrafted linocut, a gathering of solar creatures from global folklore circle the Sun, including: Beavi, the Saami reindeer goddess; Sköll, the Norse wolf; Yéil, the Tlingit Raven Trickster of the Pacific Northwest Americas; Sotka, the water bird from Finno‑Ugric mythology, who births and hatches the dawn; Sekhmet, the she-lion of ancient Egypt; and Kuntur, the Andean condor who mediates the sun. Here the Sun’s heat and fierce brilliance is tempered and made knowable through the ordinary enchantments of the wild: the ageless hunt between predator and prey, the eternal cycle of hatching and birthing, and the seasonal migration that returns. In the spell of the telling, we begin to feel like we are living within a relational universe - awake, watchful, alive, and attuned. The edges of a once indifferent world soften, and we begin to meet the world with a little more wonder.
