Perchta 8" x 10"

$65.00

This handcrafted linocut print is inspired by the ancient winter goddess Perchta, and her connection to the snow goose and the spinning wheel. With one foot in the weaver’s world and one in the feathered wings of a white bird, Perchta shapeshifts between an elderly woman and a white swan or goose, and represents what has been and what waits to be born. She is the sacred guardian of the in-between, the turning of the year from one to the next, a Winter Solstice queen weaving in light from darkness. Perchta lives in multiple worlds and mediates between them and for this reason through her we can hear, see, and feel the wisdom this vital and soulful sense of bothness offers us. It is said the first snowflakes fall from her downy goose-feathers as she shakes out the sky, a tale the Brothers Grimm once echoed in the figure of Mother Goose — but the story, like Perchta herself, runs far deeper than it seems.

This handmade print includes the following details: The Goddess Perchta with a winterberry crown, a snow goose, feathers and stars.
