This is a hand-carved linocut print inspired by the Greek Goddess of Wisdom, Athena, and her companionship with an owl, Nyctimene, who sits on her blind side, who then enables her to see the whole truth.

This myth suggests that wisdom includes more than just one perspective: it requires double sightedness, multiple orientations, two different vantage points. Perhaps it also invites us to consider that wisdom also includes a collaboration and vision that emerges from a deep relationship between human and more-than-human worlds. It is a recognition that wisdom is more than the sum of its parts. . . that we must work together, hear multiple voices and vantage points, to reach deep insight, discernment, clear thinking and understanding.

This print includes the Goddess Athena, and her owl along with a variety of woodland botanical motifs representing the forest where this deep companionship originates.

SIZE: The paper size ranges from 11.25"-12" x 24" (if this matters to you please indicate it in the note to seller)

MATERIALS:

It is printed with Caligo Safewash (non-toxic) Relief Ink on either Strathmore or Hosho papers, all of which are archival quality. Hosho paper is a cultural heritage paper that has been handcrafted from the branches of the kozo, gampi and mitsumata trees for hundreds of years. It is acid-free and archival quality and has a rustic natural handmade feel with deckled edge. Strathmore Paper Mills are located in Massachusetts where my studio is, so for local and USA customers, this paper may be more eco-friendly than Hosho. Strathmore is a smooth, bright white, modern looking paper made of 100% cotton acid-free fiber. Paired with the rustic handcrafted folktale motifs and nature-inspired colors, Strathmore paper gives these prints a "modern-rustic" look and style.

COLOR It is printed three different color options Black, Cobalt Blue & Sepia Brown. The Black is printed on Strathmore paper, the Cobalt Blue & Sepia Brown are printed on Hosho Paper.
