This artwork brings to focus Athena's companionship with an owl, along with a variety of botanical forest elements representing the forest where this deep friendship originates. This myth is about how Athena gains her wisdom after befriending an owl suggesting that wisdom includes more than just one perspective: it requires double sightedness, multiple orientations, two different vantage points. Perhaps it also invites us to consider that wisdom also includes a collaboration and vision that emerges from a deep relationship with the wild.

MATERIALS:

This handmade linocut design is printed with Caligo Safewash (non-toxic) Relief Ink in six colors. The colors are hand mixed so please expect slight variations. Photos are taken to carefully represent the actual colors.

PAPER: The Cobalt Blue is printed on Strathmore Paper, a local archival modern printmaking paper in Massachusetts. The rest of the colors are printed on Awagami Seelect Hosho paper, an archival heritage paper from Japan handcrafted from natural materials. The Hosho paper comes in different shades of white, some bright white and others slightly warm-white. If the white color matters to you, please contact the seller to ask for what you would like.

PACKAGING: This print will be carefully rolled in Kraft paper, packed in a recycled clear bag and shipped in a recycled cylindrical tube. A one-page insert including a description of the folktale is included with the print. Gift wrap and a handwritten note to a gift recipient is possible, please mention it in your note to seller.

SHIPPING: All my prints are packaged and shipped out within 1-3 business days. This print has free shipping for U.S. Customers, and there is a flat rate fee of $20 for international customers.
