This is a handcrafted linocut print inspired by a heartwarming folktale from the Isle of Skye beautifully retold by Scottish Storyteller Daniel Allison in his book Scottish Myths and Legends, also available for listening on FairFolk Podcast (October 30, 2020) as an interview with host Danica Boyce.

The story is about a young girl who gets lost berry picking in the misty mountains and unexpectedly discovers The Dreammakers who are an elderly couple who make dreams out of deer cheese. It is the wild birds who carry these dreams to different landscapes where they nestle into the heads of those who sleep.

This handcrafted print includes the following details: feathers of a snow goose, merlin, osprey, crow, snowy owl, bald eagle and peregrine falcon (some native birds from the Isle of Skye), a herd of deer, the dramatic spiky pinnacles iconic mountains of the Isle of Skye, and the Makers of Dreams. I absolutely love this folktale and it warms my heart to imagine that in the heart of the night, a dream will come to me riding on feathered wings of a bird from the Isle of Skye.

This would make a great gift for a dreamer, someone aspiring towards a dream, someone who loves wild birds. It would also make a great gift for someone who is ashamed of being lost, because the story shows that wandering and being lost sometimes enables you to find something very precious. Because this story inspires wonder and magic, it can be a wonderful piece of art for a child's bedroom, or a seasonal decor in the living room for the darker months of rest and dreaming!
