Snow Goose / Mother Goose 5.25" x 8.5"

$49.00

This is a handcrafted linocut print inspired by old Germanic folklore about the first flakes of snow being the feathers from the featherbeds of Old Mother Goose, also known as “Frau Holle” popularized by the Brother’s Grimm in their book Children's and Household Tales in 1812. In the Netherlands when it first snows one might still hear the expression "Hulda is making her bed". However, it is not just Frau Holle’s bed that contains goose feathers. There is a rich collection of folklore that suggests she may have been a goose herself, or shapeshifting between human and goose, because in some versions of the story she has a one large foot, like that of a goose or duck, or perhaps a splayed foot from pressing the treadle of her spinning wheel. . . .and the first flakes of snow are the feathers from her beating wings as she flies overhead.

This handcrafted print includes the following details: a white snow goose sleeping, feathers and snow.
